| considering the interactive dynamics of place and human movement in designed environments
Appendage is a visual art project created by Katie Coughlin. I was hired to supply choreographic services that activated each of Coughlin’s five objects. The live presentation of Appendage is a performance of functionality. Each object is more itself when it is in use.
4 STATES OF BEING
1 The Object alone
2 The Dancer alone
3 The Dancer performing their Object
4 The Dancer performing the function of their Object without the object (highlighting the body movements required to activate their object)
Developing the movement
Determining Katie’s movements in her Brooklyn Brownstone where she lived much of her life and made memories, which led to Appendage.
